Integral of 3 ice square is ice cube(d) plus C!
This Calculus joke plays on the process of taking an integral. Using the power rule, the integral of 3x^2 dx becomes x^3 + C. When we replace x with ice we get ice^3 or an ice cube!

Slice of Pi
The mathematical pi (3.14159..) is a homonym to the delicious pie, often consumed as a tasty dessert. This cartoon takes the symbol for pi, π, and creates it out of pie material (cherry pie, to be specific). The slice off the edge makes it a "slice of pi"! A Mathematical Limerick!
This joke plays on the many different names we give to quantities. Here we have a dozen (12), a gross (144), and a score (20). Following the order of operations and the meter of the limerick we end up with two equivalent expressions. Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7 8 9! But why did 7 eat 9? To get 3 squared meals a day!
The first joke is a well-known favorite of many. It is a pun that plays off of the homonyms 'eight' and 'ate'. Six is afraid of seven, because seven 'ate' nine! The second joke plays off of the health advice to eat 'three square meals per day', meaning to eat meals that have foods from each of the food groups (which used to be arranged in a square). Thus, eating three 'squared' meals a day must be good for seven! |
